A2; Newspaper. Charlotte & April :)

April and I chose brief number 3, which entails making the two first pages of a local newspaper and choosing two of these three options: to produce a poster, record a radio advertisement and to make 2 hyperlink pages from the newspapers website. We're choosing to do the poster and the 2 hyperlinks.
We thought to help us produce our newspaper, we should analyse popular and local newspapers and magazines, to see what content they hold and the layouts. The magazines we looked at were "Closer", "Heat", "OK" and "Now". And the newspapers were, "The Guardian", "Metro", "The London Paper" and "The Times". We shall be posting our detailed analyses on another post. We shall be analysing the front covers, the magazine contents, and the main feature stories.
We had a couple of themes in mind, and ideas for what our newspaper should contain, such as:
  • Local celebrities
  • Local Activies
  • Local Restaurants & hot spots
  • Local Stories
  • And Local attractions
There are few newspapers about which are gossip and local based, therefore we thought it would be a good idea for ours to be based upon this idea. Most newspapers are targetted for the older generation. We wanted our newspaper to attract a younger audience we would do this by making it less formal and easier to understand.

  1. One big issue that must be addressed with this brief is how your intended audience will access the product? will it be a freebie? will it be on subscription? which outlets do you think would stock it? Supermarkets/newsagents etc - think about your intended younger audience.
